Funding
Skanda Vale’s temples attract some 90,000 pilgrims a year
from all over the UK, Europe and Asia, and it is their
generosity that accounts for over 75% of the Hospice’s
funding. Almost all the pilgrims donate without expecting to
ever benefit from the use of the hospice facility. Their
inspiration to give is motivated by their personal
experience of love and care that they receive whilst staying
at the Skanda Vale Monastery. They see the hospice as a
continuation of the monastic community’s work and as such
are eager to support it, though most have never even seen
the hospice buildings. We are funded entirely by voluntary
donations and have no NHS grant or government sponsorship.
Our funding source generates a substantial and, most
importantly, a sustainable income for the Hospice. Since the
appeal started we’ve raised an impressive £800,000 – on top
of our ongoing running costs. Wonderful generosity from
groups like the Freemasons of Peterwell lodge, St. Thomas
Methodist church and the Cellan and Llechryd coffee morning
group demonstrates the strength of support we receive from
our local community. We raise funds throughout the year with
activities such as street collections, prize draws, car boot
sales, market stalls and the extremely popular sponsored
walk and annual fete. These are great opportunities for the
monks, nuns, patients and members of the general public to
get together and share the warmth and friendliness of the
hospice community |
