Welcome!
Skanda Vale Hospice is situated between Carmarthen and
Cardigan on the A484, in the village of Saron. Our central
location puts us at the heart of the peaceful rural
community of Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion. We currently
offer a full respite care service, and can arrange for
clinical care to be provided by visiting nurses or GP's.
The hospice is open five days a week, usually from 9.30am
until 4pm. Our policy is to be as patient-centred as
possible in all matters, so opening hours can be flexible to
suit the requirements of our visitors and their families.
(We’ve even been known to open on weekends!)

We’re thrilled to announce that finally, after many years of
planning and fundraising, we’ve now started developing our
new in-care unit.
As many of you will already know, we
are currently a day care centre. We provide personal care
and respite to anyone with a life threatening illness.
Our long-term vision to provide an in-care unit is about to
become a reality. We are going to build five beautiful,
homely bedrooms on the first floor of our Hospice, so we can
give people a wonderful experience of love, care and peace
at the end of their lives.
This takes a lot of planning – we are currently working out
the details of what services to offer, how we intend to
offer them, and how we are going to fund it all. When this
is complete, the next stage will involve commissioning
architects to create a beautiful, peaceful and uplifting
space for our future patients.
We anticipate the planning, building, registration and set
up of the new service to take approximately two years. We’ve
made one big step forward already, by deciding to employ a
small team of full time nurses. Initially we thought all the
care could be entirely volunteer based, but as we looked
deeper we realised this was unrealistic – we can’t provide
the consistent level of clinical experience necessary
without full time dedicated nursing staff. So there are
exciting new opportunities for people with clinical and nursing skills to work
alongside the monks and nuns in a non-voluntary capacity.
