Who is assisted bathing for?
Our assisted bathing service is available free of charge to anyone over the age of 18 who suffers from cancer, stroke, a heart condition or breathing difficulties. In fact, anyone who has been diagnosed with a life threatening illness, or who has palliative care needs, will be warmly welcomed to use our assisted bathing service.
The benefits of assisted bathing
Many people who come to the hospice find it difficult to have a proper bath or shower at home. It can be uncomfortable (and sometimes unsafe) trying to wash whilst coping with difficult physical limitations. Yet staying properly clean and ‘scrubbed up’ can have a huge effect on how good we feel each day.
Our assisted bathing service has been running since 2003. Patients normally have a bath in the morning, then enjoy a complementary therapy, before joining the rest of the group for lunch.
Our bathroom is very homely – we take great care to make sure it’s bright, welcoming and spacious. We have a comfortable hydraulic bathtub, which can be raised or lowered to help you aboard. We also have an electric patient hoist if you have mobility difficulties. Rubber ducks and bubble bath are optional extras!

“I have attended Skanda Vale Hospice for over a year and made full use of their facilities. I have found the special bath and aromatherapy treatments very therapeutic and of great benefit. The standard of care I have received has been exceptional, certainly adding to the experience. I could not of hoped for better, it makes the 80 mile round trip worthwhile.”Michelle Gardner - Respite day care patient
“Skanda Vale Hospice is a very special place, run by very special, caring people. Set in a tranquil location with beautiful grounds, which is the perfect environment for such a place. I believe that a facility like this is much needed within Carmarthenshire.”Michelle Gardner - Respite day care patient
