Hospice volunteer OPPORTUNITIES

People volunteer for many different reasons—whether you want to make a difference in your community, be part of a team or gain new skills and work experience, we can provide a huge range of rewarding hospice volunteering opportunities that can work flexibly around your other commitments.

Skanda Vale Hospice Volunteering – Get Involved!

Skanda Vale Hospice is primarily led and run by volunteers. While a small number of paid staff provide expertise and consistency in key roles, most of our team, including all senior management, are hospice volunteers. So whether you’d like to help with nursing, leadership, care, fundraising or supportive services, there’s a role for you here.

Earlier this year, all 55 team members surveyed by Healthcare Inspectorate Wales recommended the hospice as a good place to work or volunteer. Read more about what they found.

Part of a local group? We’d be glad to arrange a visit, or to come and give a talk: group visits and talks.

9 volunteer roles available

Imagine being able to do something for people who really needed it, with other people who know the value of it and yet give it freely; as if it was nothing… In a place which is beautiful because someone really thought about how it should be, and didn't worry too much about the cost. A place where the whole of a person is acknowledged, not just their malfunction. Sometimes, I think I go there to glimpse a possible future—one we're not supposed to believe in. But look, here it is, in a small village in Wales… a beginning (but if anyone asks, I'm just here for the food!)

NOT SURE WHICH ROLE IS RIGHT FOR YOU?

Four people sit around a small table in a bright sitting room, two of them talking over mugs of tea, with a brindle dog on a lead resting between them.

VOLUNTEERING DROP-IN MORNINGS

We’re trialling a regular drop in for potential volunteers on the last Tuesday of every month, from 10am–12pm here at Skanda Vale Hospice. The first is Tuesday 27 October.

Come and see the hospice for yourself, and talk to members of our team. Feel free to ask any questions you may have — what our volunteer roles involve, how much time they take, what a shift is actually like — and have a look round and a cup of tea.

There’s no need to book, and no obligation to take anything further. Just come along if volunteering with us is something you’d like to explore.
